Palvoncha Peddamma Temple

Peddamma Temple which s dedicated to Ammavari Goddess famous Durga Devi Temple located in K.P. Jagannadhapuram Village, Palvancha Mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem District

Kothagudem and palvancha are the twin industrial towns in Bhadradri district of the Indian state of Telangana.

The temple comes alive during the months of October and November.

This a temple that gives darshan to public by the road side. Daily hundreds of devotees this temple this temple is on the way to India's most famous temple Sri Seetharamachandra Swamy Devasthanam, Bhadrachalam.

This is situated 80 km away to khammam district enroute to bhadrachalam temple town
near SH 11 and NH 44 between Palvancha and Bhadrachalam Towns

History
In olden days when this region used to be a dense forest, a large tiger used to roam in this area and used rest in the shade of a tamarind tree. 

People used to watch this tiger traveling this road. The tiger never did harm to any person. So, People started seeing this tiger as a divine incarnation instead of a cruel animal.

 Since the tiger is a vehicle for goddess Durga people started believing the tiger as incarnation and  installed Durga Devi statue and built a temple in that place and people started offering prayers.

Temple Timings : 6 am - 8:30 pm

Palvancha is considered as the oldest taluk in Bhadradri Kothagudem district which existed much "Earlier than its sister town Kothagudem which was started only after singareni had started .

The area is endowed with rich forests, industries and landscapes. 

The nearest railway station is at Kothagudem which is about 12 km away. It was originally named "Bhadrachalam Road", being the closest railway station to Bhadrachalam, an important pilgrimage location of Lord Rama. 

It is also famous for its record high temperatures during summer, often crossing 50 °C mark. The multipurpose Kinnerasani Dam is also very near to here (12 km). Kinnersani is also famous for its wild life, it is a notified Sanctury.

Ramadasu was the prominent person from Palvancha Tani Shah (last ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, who ruled the kingdom of Golconda) hired him as "Tehsildar" (Head of the Revenue Department) of Palvancha taluk.

Elagandal Fort

Elgandal Fort is situated amidst palm groves on the banks of the Manair River (a tributary of the Godavari River), approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Karimnagar on the Kamareddy Road in the Indian state of Telangana.

The Elagandal fort is situated in a hillock presents a picturesque view of Elagandal. “Elagandal khilla” is the name of the fort on the hill. The magnificent facade of the fort attracts tourists.

In olden days it was also called as Bahudanyapuram and it was called veliganadu during Kaktiya times.

The inscription dated 1202 AD found on a stone slab at chintamani tank belongs to Chaunda Preggada of Malyala family subordinate of Kakatiya Ganapatideva.

Elgandal Fort is one such structure that takes us to an Utopian world. The big archways, doors, minarets, water tanks inside the fort depicts the life inside the fort. At a time, Elgandal Fort was a priced possession for any ruler and today it is one of the must-visit heritage sites near Karimnagar.

Elgandal was a major centre that witnessed major political dynasties including the Kakatiyas, the Bahmanis, the Qutub Shahis, the Mughals and the Nizams.

This place is historically important because 5 important dynamic sites ruled over this place. The antiquities of the place worth mentioning are

A fort on a hill.
Brindavan tank on the outside of the eastern gateway of the fort by Zafar-ud-Doula in 1754 A.D. with minarets that oscillate when shaken and tombs of the Muslim saints like syed Shah Munawar Quadri saheb, Doola Shah saheb, syed Maroof Saheb, Shah Talib Bismilla Saheb and Vali Hyder saheb.

On the 11th and 12th days of Moharram, and annual Urs of these saint's is celebrated by the Muslims and Hindus alike with great reverence and people from far off places participate in it.

Besides, there are temples of Nelakantha Swamy and Narasimha Swamy.

It was once under the control of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, the Mughal Empire, and the Nizams of Hyderabad. During the Nizam era it was the headquarters of Karimnagar. It is believed that a secret tunnel connects Elgandal Fort and Manakondur some 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from Karimnagar on the Karimnagar-Vemulawada highway.

Originally known as Veligundula, Elgandal is a hillfort built during the Kakatiya dynasty (1083–1323) and served as a stronghold for the warrior Musunuri Nayaks and Recharla padmanayaks.

1518 AD - 1687 AD : Qutb Shahi dynasty or Golconda or Golkonda Sultanate
The Qutb Shahi dynasty occupied the fort in the 16th century and posted Quinamul Mulk as commander.

Quinamul Mulk or Qawam-ul-Mulk
During the absence of Sooltan Koolly Kootb Shah in his late campaign, his northern districts had been attacked and laid waste by Kowam-ool—Moolk Toork, an officer of the Bahmuny Government, who, during the late convulsions, had rendered himself master of the forts of Elgundel, Mulungoor, and some other districts, and collecting a force of six thousand horse and about ten thousand infantry, invaded the countries of his neighbours. On the return of Sooltan Koolly, he received accounts of Kowam-ool-Moolk's incursions. He accordingly addressed letters of advice to him, and demanded restitution of the property he had plundered in the Kootb Shahy territories. The ambassadors who waited on Kowam-ool-Moolk were directed to inform him, that their master was sorry to hear what had happened ; and that it Was his wish to be on terms of friendship with all his Mahomedan neighbours, since it is written in the Koran, that " all the faithful are brethren ". Kowam-ool-Moolk, elated with his success in declaring his independence, and despising the power of Sooltan Koolly, shortly afterwards sent his troops again into his territories to plunder. Sooltan Koolly Kootb Shah could no longer restrain his rage, and immediately ordered his army into the field, and marched towards Elgundel. He was met by Kowamool-Moolk at the distance of one day's march from that place at the head of his army. On the following day an action ensued, which lasted from dawn till noon, when the King charged in person, at the head of two thousand cavalry, and defeated Kowam-ool-Moolk, who fled in confusion, and threw himself into the fort of Elgundel. To this place the King proceeded, and invested it; but Kowam-ool-Moolk, finding himself unable to contend with his enemy, fled to Berar, and solicited assistance from Alla-ood-Deen Imad Shah. Elgundel, shortly after, fell into the hands of the King, and many of the Mahomedan troops of Kowam-ool-Moolk entered his service. Having now occupied the forts of Elgundel and Mulungoor with his own soldiers, the King returned to his capital. Kowam-ool-Moolk, who had fled to Berar, persuaded Alla-ood-Deen Imad Shah to espouse his cause, and to march to recover his country. When Kootb Shah heard of this movement, he sent an ambassador to that monarch, relating the obstinacy of Kowam-ool-Moolk, and reminding him, also, that the Imad Shahy troops had lately usurped the country of the seven tuppas, which the late Mahmood Shah Bahmuny had bestowed upon Sooltan Koolly; he, therefore, demanded the restitution of the seven tuppas, and required, also, that Imad Shah should not give protection to Kowam-ool-Moolk within his territories. Alla-ood-Deen Imad Shah, however, so far from yielding to any of the above demands, sent back an answer full of indignation, which induced Sooltan Koolly to march with his army towards his dominions ; and Imad Shah moved from Elichpoor, and opposed the Kootb Shahy troops near the fortress of Ramgeer. On the day following an action ensued which lasted till the afternoon. The Imad Shahy army outflanked Sooltan Koolly's which was in the act of giving way on all sides, when he, as usual charged through the centre of his own army with the reserve of two thousand cavalry in armour, broke the enemy's line, and completely defeated them. Alla-ood-Deen Imad Shah fled to Berar, and Sooltan Koolly directed his army to occupy the district of the seven tuppas; after which he returned to Golconda. Here he heard that Seetaputty, the Raja of Cumamett, had presumed to Jay hands on some of the Kootb Shahy districts which lay contiguous to his country.

Subsequently, it fell under the administrative control of the Mughal Empire.Amin Khan was appointed as Khiledar of Elagandal during the reign of Nizam of Hyderabad Nizam-ul-Mulk, Asaf Jah I (r. 1724–1748) followed by Muqarrab Khan.
Mirza ibrahim dhamsa became Khiledar during the reign of Nawab Salabat Jung. Dhamsa rebuilt and strengthened the fort in 1754 during the reign of Sikindar Jha (r.1803-1823). Bahadur Khan and Karimuddin served as Khiledars. Karimnagar was named after Karimuddin. While reorganizing the districts, Mahbub Ali Khan, the Sixth Nizam, shifted the District Headquarters from Elagandal to Karimnagar in 1905.

Elgandal's rulers surrounded the fort with a crocodile filled moat of around 5 metres (16 ft) wide and 4 metres (13 ft) deep to prevent enemy incursions.

The site also houses a mosque and an eidgah, the designated place for special Eid prayers.


Timings

The fort remains open for visit by public on all week days, and the timing to visit the fort is 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

Nampally Gutta Temple


At a distance of 2 km from Nampally Bus Stop, 4.5 km from Vemulawada Bus Stand & 32 km from Karimnagar, Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is situated at Nampally Gutta. 

The temple is nestled on a small hillock on the Vemulawada - Karimnagar highway. It is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol was carved out of the rock around which the temple was built. The visitors have to walk a few hundred steps that lead to the top from nearest the parking area at bottom. The climb is little steep may take up to 15 minutes.

One the way to the Narasimha temple, there is a temple for Naga
Devatha. The temple was built in a model of Snake. Visitors can enter the shrine through the snake's belly - a long, winding tunnel. There are statues depicting the story of Prahalada and Hiranyakasipu. At the end of the tunnel, the statue of Lord Narasimha killing the demon Hiranyakasipu is present. There are also a few ancient idols of Naga Devatha. At the entrance of the temple, one can find a statue of Lord Narasimha breaking his way out of a pillar.

Vemulawada Temple

The presiding deity Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy is also called as Rajanna of Vemulawada is in the form of Neela Lohitha Siva Lingam is known for his boundless benevolence in fulfilling the wishes of the devotees.

The shrine is located at the center of the town a top a small hill. The temple has a gateway leading up the hill and a typical south Indian style gopuram marks the entrance to the shrine.

The temple attracts maximum devotees during Shivratri and during Kartik Month (November – December) in Telugu Calendar.

It is believed that if one pulls a bull around the temple one’s wishes will be fulfilled.


Vemulavada is about 180 kms from Hyderabad and 35 kms from Karimanagar.

It is believed that the architecturally beautiful shrine was built between 9th and 10th century by Vemulawada Chalukyas. The Rajeswara temple is obviously so named, either because it was built by Rajaditya which was the Biruda of Narasimha I, of the Chalukyas of Vemulavada, who was the grandson of Vinayaditya Yuddhamalla I, or is named after him.

The shrine has got a holy tank named Dharma Gundam, the waters of the tank is believed to have medicinal properties. 

Legend has it that once upon a time god Indra went to many holy places after he killed Vrithasura and still could not purify his life. Then he took the advice from the guru of gods, Bruhaspathi to visit Sri Raja Rajeshwara kshetram. There he took the holy dip in dharma-gundam and took the blessings of lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara and ruled a golden age of the history. By this ancient story, history gives us the evidence of existence of lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara in Krita yuga.

Another historical story about how the dharma-gundam was built. Once upon a time a king named Sri Raja Raja Narendra came to this place while hunting wild animals. But accidentally he killed a Brahmin boy with an arrow while the boy was drinking water from a pond. Then with the curse of Brahma hatya he got an incurable disease and went on pilgrimage to many holy places and returned back to this place. One day he drank the holy water from the dharma gundam and slept the night praying the lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy. In his dreams lord shiva asked him, that to take lords existence, the lingam from the dharma-gundam and put in a temple.

When the king woke up in the morning he found that his incurable disease got cured. Then he built steps to the dharma gundam and cleaned lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara swamy lingam and built a temple on the hill to keep the lingam inside the temple. But while he was sleeping in the night holy sidhas came and established the gods idol inside the temple. When king was worried about missing the chance to establish the shiva linga, god came in to this dreams and promised that kings name will be associated with the place forever.


It is been said in many mythologies that Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy lingam existed in Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga and Dwapara Yuga. And this holy place was visited and praised by many holy persons in Indian ancient history and got never ending importance in holy pilgrimage.

There are numerous smaller shrines in the temple complex. Important among them are Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy form of Vishnu with Krishna murti in the center and another one dedicated to Sita Ramaswamy. There are also other shrines in the complex dedicated to Shiva and Durga.


The Temple picturesquely stands on the bank of a large Tank which is called as Gudicheruvu. The Garbha – Griha [Mahamandapam] has “Sri Lakshmi Ganapathi”; Lord Raja Rajeshwara in the form of Neelalohitha Siva Linga ; Goddess Sri Raja Rajeshwari Devi and Nandeeshwara facing the Lord. The sanctum sanatorium encloses Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple; Sri Seetharama Chandra Swamy Temple; Sri Anjaneya Sahitha Kasi Visweswara Swamy

This Shrine is popularly known as ‘Dakshina Kasi’ [Southern Banaras] and also as “Harihara Kshetram” for their being two Vaisnava Temples in main Temple complex i.e., Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple & Sri Seetharama Chandra Swamy Temple and Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is Kesthra Palaka of this Temple being consecrated with Pujas/ festive rituals [both Shivate & Vaisnavate festivals] and Sreerama Navami is the 2nd major festival in this temple.


Religious bodies--temples and mosques are usually found in separate places as devotees of the respective religions prefer to worship at their own place of worship. Exception to this is Vemulawada Sri Rajarajeshwari Swamy temple, popularly known as Dakshina Kasi. As the tomb of a Muslim saint is in the temple premises, both Hindus and Muslims offer obeisance to Lord Shiva and Allah, a fine example of communal harmony.
